As we finished up filming, we ran into a few problems from lighting to communication problems. Our biggest problem being the communication with each other. As we can’t meet face-to-face with each other and don’t see each other daily, communicating was hard. Even through we all have phones and their contact information, it was hard as they wouldn’t answer their phones for hours at a time. This was harder to ‘fix’ because there wasn’t anything we do other than talk to them and explain to them why they needed to have their phones on them, but this did not work. In the end, we did finish the project on time.
Another easier problem that I encountered was the lighting in my room. The first scene we recorded was the Zoom call, where I had to have gloomy, dark lighting. My light was close to my face and very bright on camera, to fix this, I got a black piece of clothing and put it on top of my lamp. Doing this gave me the lighting I needed for the scene. The second scene I filmed I did the same thing but this time let some light shine through. This light on me looked reddish and could be used to signify danger.
A big part of our script centered around the app/program called “Zoom”. Zoom is video conferencing tool where my group and I got together to finish the last half of our script. For this part of the script I had my brother come and help me film the lights flickering, where I would give him little cues to know when to flick the lights. I added and removed a few bits of the script as I filmed to make it more ‘natural’ and I believe it did give the scene an improvement, making it seem more tense and mysterious. I removed the part where I said I was going to get some water, and I stutter that I would “I’ll be right back”. Using this line adds to the mystery aspect as I don’t specify where I am going, leading to the screen going black and hearing me scream.
As we are moving on with creating this final product, each of us are running into our own problems in recording. We had to do many reshoots for one specific scene when on the computer ‘Zoom’ call because one of our actors couldn’t be heard. We did one shoot without mistakes and our editor said he would try to fix the audio in editing.
We have also run into the problem of members not doing their parts in the project. They sleep in late and than don’t get the shoots sent in to the editor, putting us all behind on our schedule. This is extremely difficult for all of us especially because they do not answer their phone most of the time so we have not way of contacting them. When we brought the problem up with them they brushed the problem of and said they would get the shoots in (they didn’t). The past few days has been hard to get our parts in without this person helping us out and meeting us halfway.
As we are now in quarantine, our final product had to be changed and will now be more difficult to shoot. We are no longer able to meet together to shoot, so we had to make a script that would be easy to tell but would still have some suspense to it. Another problem we are running into is equipment. Lighting and sound quality are going to be hard to cover. In this picture below, I used a black t-shirt to cover up the lamp. The lighting but emphasis on the news paper, which will highlight the suspicious activity going on around the town. It also makes sure to keep an emphasis on me, and not the background.

As we are coming up with our filming dates and times, we also discovered that our actress did not want to be in the film anymore. Our new goal is to find an actress as fast as we can. This role can be considered a little harder than our previous films as it involves a lot of screaming and acting scared. We do have choices of people to chose from, all the same age. But we have to be sure that the actress knows what she has to do and she has to be comfortable with the amount of ‘stress’ or the exhaustion is would bring.
This weekend was supposed to be our first day of filming, but we have had some problems, causing us to reschedule. One problem we have had was that some of the group members couldn’t show up. Another problem that we are having is the time change. We are now losing an hour, but luckily this is an easy fix, so our filming has to be later in the night
When looking for background music, we want it to fit in with what is going on in the story, so my group looked up suspenseful music and how to use it correctly. The music we plan to use will have to have a balance of both tension and suspense, to build up the audiences fear factor. The music would have to be used to tell the audience that something is going to happen to the main character, like when the character is downstairs drinking water when all of a sudden the lights in the house go off, letting the audience know that this character is going to relapse.
